The water technology company Xylem, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C, has opened a new water innovation center in its Shanghai headquarters to drive innovation in smart water services. According to an article from the platform China Daily, the Xylem Water InnoSpace, which includes a digital product laboratory, will focus on digitalization and intelligent development. It quoted Lyu Shuping, president of Xylem China & North Asia, during the center's launch ceremony on 6 March, as saying: "Digital technologies can create powerful water, energy and cost efficiencies, and make water systems more resilient and sustainable.”

Xylem specializes in water and wastewater technologies such as treatment systems, analytical instruments, pumps and hydro turbines. It has been operating in China for more than 30 years. In her speech, Lyu underlined that the water and wastewater industry now has a greater focus on energy-saving solutions, asset optimization and intelligent, data-driven solutions. "Xylem has continuously strengthened local R&D capabilities and strived to use digitalisation to help solve water problems," she said.

Xylem also operates AquaTalk, a smart water platform that solves problems such as insufficient monitoring, urban waterlogging and sewage overflow in the construction of some smart cities, according to China Daily. The platform launched in 2017 and was developed in collaboration with Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. em
