Zurich – SmartCityAlliance wants to connect smart city stakeholders, such as companies, universities and foundations, with government authorities and property managers. Its motto is that it takes a community to build a smart city.

Cities and towns are facing the challenge of having to design living habitats that are more efficient and more intelligent. To help achieve this, SmartCityAlliance was founded to connect SMEs, large companies, start-ups, universities and foundations with government authorities and property managers. In doing so, it aims to create “a new marketplace in which stakeholders, suppliers and investors can find partners to collaborate with”, according to a press release.

Founding members of SmartyCityAlliance include Swiss companies, startups, universities and foundations from different sectors.

“Thanks to the association, we now have the force needed to ensure that fully developed, smart solutions can be implemented in a more targeted and beneficial manner in the future,” Enrico Baumann, initiator and president of the board of SmartCityAlliance, said at an event in Zurich last week celebrating the founding of the new business association.

Baumann is CEO of Elektron, which provides smart city solutions as well as solutions in the field of drive engineering, power electronics, lighting engineering and payment systems.

According to SmartCityAlliance, new quality standards will help ensure that public funds are invested in sustainable, long-lasting technologies.
