Zurich - The canton of Zurich and the Chinese province of Guangdong are planning to cooperate more broadly. Government Councilor Carmen Walker Späh and Governor Ma Xingrui have both signed an action plan. In particular, financial sector collaborations are to be intensified.

The canton of Zurich and the southern Chinese province of Guangdong have agreed an action plan that outlines cooperations between the two regions up to 2022. This provides the basis for increased collaborations in the areas of energy, mobility and the environment, as well as for technological issues such as blockchain and Artificial Intelligence. Zurich and Guangdong are also keen to intensify exchanges between their respective educational and research institutes.

A particular focus of the strengthened ties between Zurich and Guangdong will be on cooperations in the financial sector, according to a press release issued by the canton of Zurich. In this context, during a virtual roundtable on Friday, business representatives from both regions discussed topics including innovations in the insurance sector, capital market activities and sustainable financing.

Carmen Walker Späh, Head of the Department for Economic Affairs for the canton of Zurich, and Ma Xingrui, Governor of the province of Guangdong, signed the action plan on Friday. This agreement seeks to build on the partnership established between the two regions back in 2014.
