Zurich - Zurich has again been awarded the Energy City Gold Label. As part of the assessment undertaken by the Energiestadt sponsoring association, Zurich received 85 percent of the possible points on offer. This means that the city has now held the Energy City label for 20 years.

As part of the Climathon Zurich hackathon, Zurich was again awarded the Energy City Label in Gold. In this way, the Energiestadt sponsoring association is promoting the transition towards renewable energies and energy efficiency. According to a press release issued by the city, the expansion of photovoltaic installations on city-owned properties contributed to this recognition, as did the implementation of the Altstetten and Höngg energy network. In addition, the new Hardbrücke tram line and further electrification of public transport have also played their part.

Zurich was first recognized as an Energy City 20 years ago. Since then, the long-term aims of the city have been “continually adapted”, the press release states. This has included, among other measures, entrenching the concept of a 2,000-watt society in the municipal code and current efforts aimed at moving the city in the direction of climate neutrality. The basis for this is provided by the energy policy focal points defined in the Energy Masterplan drawn up by the city of Zurich.
