Buchs SG – The University of Liechtenstein, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and the Research and Innovation Centre for the Rhine Valley are investigating digital construction in a joint dissertation project. The Hilti Foundation is supporting the PhD.

The construction industry is increasingly in the grips of digitalisation, the Research and Innovation Centre for the Rhine Valley (RhySearch) explained in a press release. A dissertation project has been launched by RhySearch in conjunction with the University of Liechtenstein and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) to sound out the potential benefits of digitalisation in the planning, construction and management of buildings.

The Hilti Foundation is supporting this project. “In addition to our innovative product and service portfolio, we are greatly devoted to meeting the digital needs of our customers today,” said Andreas Bong, Head of Corporate Research and Technology of the Hilti Corporation, in the press release. The PhD will help the company “further cement its pioneering role in this field”.

The PhD student writing the dissertation is Valentin Holzwarth, a researcher working at RhySearch, who will be supported by the Hilti Chair for Business Process Management at the University of Liechtenstein, Jan vom Brocke, and the Head of the Innovation Center Virtual Reality (ICVR) at ETH, Andreas Kunz. RhySearch will act as the interface between science and practice for this project. The objective of the Research and Innovation Centre is to “translate the research findings of the PhD into added value and beneficial momentum for the construction industry in our region,” explained Dr Richard Quaderer, Managing Director of RhySearch.
