UN-Habitat: Sustainable Cities Program / Localizing Agenda 21

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for human settlement­s. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

The work assignment with UN-Habitat consists in supporting the facilitation of a regional workshop on Cities and Climate Change in Aguascalientes (Mexico). This includes the preparation by reviewing existing reports on Sustainable Cities Programme / Local Agenda 21 (SCP/LA21) activities in the Latin American and Carribean Region (LAC). During the workshop SCP/LA21 is wrapped-up, discussing lessons learned, and the way forward, and also informing on the follow SUD-Net/CCCI (Global Network of Sustainable Urban Development, Cities and Climate Change Initiative) activities.

Based on the inputs and results of the Regional Forum on Cities and Climate Change, the following repors are drafted:

  • Conference Findings Report
  • Work Program for SUD-Net/CCCI in LAC Region, 2008-2010
  • Planes Locales de Accion para enfrentar los Desafios del Cambio Climatico en los Paises Latinoamericanos y del Caribe
