Zurich – The Canton of Zurich Building Department has established the cantonal design plan for a cable car between the Zurich Zoo and the Stettbach railway station in the northeast of the city of Zurich. The cable car is meant to ease the volume of road traffic.

According to a statement from the Canton of Zurich, the design plan lays the planning basis for a cable car between the Zurich Zoo and the Stettbach railway station. The design plan stipulates where the ground and top stations, as well as the 11 cableway masts, are to be located. The plan is now on display to the public for 30 days, during which time an appeal against the project can be filed with the appellate building court.

The Zurich Zoo cable car is meant to encourage the growing number of visitors to the zoo to use public transport. This was confirmed by a transport study, which found that a direct connection between the Stettbach railway station – which is a public transport hub – and the zoo would prompt a shift from private to public transport.
